Meigs Failed

soundscape composition. (1/1)
A year after creating northerlyisland, I returned to the man-made peninsula to conduct another soundwalk, gathering new field recordings that informed the composition of Meigs Failed. Using microphones to capture acoustic, electronic, and hydrophonic sounds, the composition integrates both diegetic and non-diegetic elements, including those perceivable through mechanisms beyond human hearing. This return not only provided a space to reflect on the environmental changes over time but also deepened my exploration of the dynamic relationship between human activity and the natural world.
This piece was featured in the Electronic Nights Concert Series hosted by the School of Music at Texas Tech University.

In my inaugural soundscape composition, northerlyisland, I used field recordings and artifacts from the man-made peninsula as
instruments to capture and reproduce the anthropogenic noises from its
construction. Recorded during a soundwalk—a practice rooted in acoustic ecology—the composition sought to address the issue of anthropocentric negligence through attentive listening.
